Alex Harrison has spent his career confronting the worst the world has to offer. A deputy sheriff in the Kansas City area since 2015, he now serves as a detective on a task force investigating crimes against children. His professional experience is broad, but now centers on human trafficking and child exploitation. He studied criminal justice at the University of Central Missouri and has advanced training in digital forensic analysis.
That work shapes everything he writes. Alex’s fiction is fantastical and grim, highlighting the brutality people are capable of without leaning on shock value. You won’t find gratuitous gore, torture for its own sake, or sexual violence on the page. He strives first and foremost to glorify God by using fiction to drag hidden evil into the light for all to see, kindling hope in the process.
Outside of work and fiction, Alex is the founder of Night Watch Knives, and is a member of the Knifemakers' Guild. He has been building custom cutlery by hand since 2017. He is also a USPSA competitive pistol shooter.
The Song, the Wolf, and the Watcher
After waxing and waning through millennia, humanity has risen into a feudal age of iron. But people never change, and neither do the evil things they’re capable of. An expansionist conquering monarch strives to bring the people of the world under his protection while a mutant race of predatory brutes breeds unchecked in the wild mountains to the east. The mutants gather for war against a warrior queen who shepherds her remote city-state, her divine mandate hardening her against every threat and challenge. A young woman escapes a life of slavery and ritualistic sacrifice, rescued by a city watchman with a past full of ghosts. Through them, a broken, elderly paladin sees a glimmer of prophecy again. But the runaway slave has drawn the attention of a ruthless monastic warrior who operates above the law and has no interest in declarations of innocence. Watching over all of them, a silent, ageless hero of the ancient world prepares to carry out The Father’s will again.
